I've noticed a weird quirk with my 1050 which is being fed audio from my Echostar 6000 HD satelitte receiver via the aux input and digital optical cable. I have the 1050 in surround mode (natural). When I call up the menu ("guide" button on 1050 remote) on the 6000 and then switch back to the show the volume level is lower. It's almost like it changed modes or something. To get it to go back to the original volume level I can hit the "test" button for the 1050, which happens to be the same button as the "guide" button. If I toogle this button the volume level goes back up. It also sounds like there's more reverb in the audio to, so I'm wondering if somehow it's going between surround and natural modes, even though no change shows up on the 1050 front panel display. Anyone else experience this?

After investigating a little more I discovered that the reason it sounds lower is that the center channel shuts off. The display on the 1050 still shows it being there. I then toggled through all the qudio modes and Then I couldn't get it to do it again. I was either in Natural or Surround mode to begin with. Digital optical 2 input (AUX) and a DSP signal. Also, Why is it that when I toggle thru the audio modes sometimes the Natural, Jazz, Hall, etc, modes are available and other times they're not? I assume it's due to the input signal but I get confused by all these different formats. I have a 6.1 setup, but with no subwoofer at this time. What are the best audio modes for DVD's and for regular SD tv?

If you leave the 1050 on Surround mode, it will detect the signal and play Dolby Digital, DTS, DPL or mono, depending on the input.

The Natural, Jazz, Stadium... modes are digital signal processing (DSP) modes that mostly just don't sound good to me. They use time delay effects to give the sense of space.

Other than surround, the only other mode I use is Stereo, for the occasional time when I want it straight. With my front speakers (Spica TC-50) it gives the best imaging.
