Who has done it and what are your impressions. Based on the specs alone it makes me believe I will notice a nice improvement. I am also liking the digital formats that the 950 has and the 1050 doesn't offer.

I replaced a 1050 (acting as pre-amp with a Model 750 as amp) with a 950 last year, and considered it an excellent upgrade. In addition to the extra features in the 950, it sounds even better than the 1050 does.

I upgraded from the 1050 just over a month ago. There is definately a big improvement in sound quality. Most noticably, the 950/7100 is much quicker, has better soundstaging, and is much more open sounding.

Featurewise, I like the added formats. If a SACD or DVD-A player is in your future, the analog bass management feature of the 950 eliminates the deficiencies of most of the current crop of players in that regard.

I think there are a lot of people out there who are dealing with exactly this choice, due to the infamous 1050 "Harry Potter" issue and Outlaw's trade-in promotion. I ran into that problem this morning, and am now thinking about the 950/7100 as an upgrade, having only owned the 1050 for about six months. Grrrrrr.

Anyway, given the interest many of us have in this issue, more comments from any 950/7100 owners regarding their experiences (good and bad) would be very much appreciated by me and, I suspect, many similarly situatated people.

Thanks for the responses. I think this week I will be moving forward with the trade-in promotion and go with the 950/7100 combo. Just have the convince the wife of putting two more speakers on my back wall now. My room is small like 11X9 and she can't understand why I need two more speakers. But she didn't want anything at first and now she hate's watching TV without it.
