A year ago I came within days of ordering the 950/770 combo but some last minute issues held me back.

Now, my TA-E9000ES has been in and out of the shop (under warranty mind you) and we're starting to get less days with sound than with, so I'm thinking after 4 years of the Sony it's time for an upgrade.

Thinking I will upgrade the amp as well, Outlaw has always had me interested. After finding a few websites mentioning that 'hiss' thing is a fond memory I was a little more tempted.

So since I can never find any store that would have something of this caliber hooked up, I have a question.

Outlaw 950, vs B&K Ref 50. What does B&K have that makes it the price of the 950+770 ?

Outlaw 950/770 vs. Outlaw 950 & 7 200s. What do I gain ?

Thanks

The Ref 50 is in my pre/pro chart , but basically it adds balanced pre-amp outputs, THX Ultra processing, a few more digital inputs, an extra component video input, and less flexible bass management (single crossover point for all channels).

Based on different users' comments on the Model 770 and the Model 200 (including this review ), there is no real audible difference between a single 770 and seven 200's. It would probably be simpler to provide power to the 770 than to all of the 200's (one power cord rather than seven).

Gonk, Since you brought up the topic of 7 power cords for the M200s are there any electrical problems or issues if the 7 cords are plugged into a unit like one of the Brickwall products, or Monster products, etc? Could the circuit breaker switch be thrown or fuse blown?

But the multiple 200's do offer interesting options depending on how you feel about speaker wire length vs. interconnect length... and 7 small cool green led's vs. one large one...

The power consumption by 7 monoblocks or a single 7-channel amp should be almost identical, so running all of them from a single circuit (or from a single device like a brickwall) should be OK.

Gonk -

Thank you for the comparison link, answered a lot of questions. Really can't see why not to get the 950 based on my setup.

So once my 9000 ES gets back from the shop I'll put it up on eBay and all.

So what is the lead time these days? Will probably order after we get back from thanksgiving.

I was once a proud owner of a B&K ref 30 Prepro and 7250 Power amp. needless to say, I now use the amp to heat the house and the preamp.. well.. the change over was seamless (950/770), no withdrawls! the only drawback was replacing the windows! bass was flawless (REL Storm III) handled the mid and highs with no regrets (Martin logans)! you better buck up because kansas is going bye-bye!!! So, go ahead, let go of the force, trust your feelings! you won't regret it. The price is enough to tell you something. the Amp seems to run cooler, the preamp is about the same, functionallity, even the remote is same. need I say more?
