If you haven't seen the newsletter yet it doesn't give any specifics on the upcoming model. Only that the 1050 has been discontinued and a new receiver is in the works. Tentatively due the middle of next year.

[No offense Outlaw but I think the 1050 should have been discontinued awhile ago and you should have been much farther along with a new receiver if not ready to introduce it for Christmas.]

Back to the topic at hand. I have looked at the Yamaha RXV2400 as a option (financially speaking... I'm able to get one for around $650) and was just looking for opinions, comments, suggestions from all you experts or anyone else with experience with this model. I have been told that the Yamahas run pretty warm which might appeal to the current brightness of my room. Thanks for the help!

The sales guy at the "toy store" tried to sell me on the RXV2400 based on the video up conversion. What the heck is this, and why is it important? Thanks again!

Mike

That's about the exact opposite of what I've heard and experienced. If it's sound quality that you're most interested in, I've seen some used NAD receivers, somehow the model #T762 rings a bell, for a little above the price range you just stated. It's the model that has PLII, DTS-ES, and the like.

I think most would generally agree that mass market receivers tend to be towards the brighter side although I have read reviews about Onkyo receivers being a little warmer than the others.

Same here regarding yamaha's, they're not warm. As warm goes, I'd suggest Marantz, HK, and Rotel. With your new price range, you'd have to look for a used Rotel.

Thanks for the advice Alex! I took a look (listen?) at the H/K AVR525 as well as the newer model H/K's (the 430 & 630 which as far as I can tell really only differ in astetics). I couldn't find the 525 at my local Costco, not to mention that the 17 year old emplyoee wasn't really all that much help anyway, so I'm gonna have to give their website a try. Do you know if H/K honors their warranty on their receivers purchased from Costco? Costco is not listed on the website as a authourized dealer. Thanks again for all the help everyone!

Mike

You might want to check out this site http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=&C=5 they have sections pretty much all the major brands. Hope this helps your research.

Is this really legit - to use Outlaw's forum as some kind of general marketing site for all and sundry receivers, pre-pros, etc?

There has certainly been a place for mentioning and discussing 'competitive' equipment - but I think these latest exchanges are 'over the top.'

I think Outlaw's 'hospitality' should get a bit more respect.

sometimes members mean well in trying to help one another out but the latest newsletter does not want any type of classifieds/advertisement occurring...
It's too bad we can't use a private messaging feature for those moments when you don't want to "share with the class..."

Mike,

The deal was on Costco's website. I just saw onecall has a better deal on the 525 and I believe they're an authorized dealer.

FWIW, I don't see the problem recommending other equipment and where to get it. Mike has said he doesn't have sufficient funds for the Outlaw combo he wanted and is asking for other recommendations. I'm just trying to help him out and suggest some alternatives. I could care less what he ends up with or who he gets it from so long as he's happy with his purchase. I see plenty of free speech and recommendations of other eqiupment on some other internet manufacturers websites. They realize that not everything will be the right fit for everyone and I see the manufacturers themselves sometimes recommend competitors equipment. I suspect the Outlaws are similar in their views as these other internet companies. I got the impression from the newsletter they were asking that people not turn this website into a classifieds section. I don't think that has been done here. If I'm wrong, I reckon they'll delete this post.

I'd be happy to PM Mike the info but we obviously don't have that ability on this forum.

hk will not honor costco because its a wholesaler (well im pretty sure they wont). the 630 is nothing like the 430, and the 630 is out of your budget anyway. youll have to check their website for the specs though. onkyo is a relatively inexpensive but pretty good brand, but they do rate their power driven at 1khz instead of the spectrum of music 20hz-20khz, like hk and other high end brands do. besides that onkyo is high end too. at that price range youre gonna be looking for a deal somewhere, try a high end store that may have an open item, they usually mark them down quite a bit.
