Well my new friends... I hate to say this, but looking over my finances, I may not be able to afford the purchase of the 950/7100 combo. I am humbly asking for some good info on a similar single unit receiver comparable to the 950/7100 combo. I really had hoped that I would be able to purchase the Outlaw combo as the brain of my new HT. Unfortunately that might not be the case. I'd just like to say that I truly appreciate all of your opinions and continued help!

Mind if I ask a couple questions (not counting this one) to start out? What gear (if any) do you have right now? What sort of budget do you have in mind for a new receiver? What other gear (speakers, display, source components, etc.) will you be using with it, getting at the same time, or in the near future? There are receivers from companies like Denon (the 2803 or 1804 would be possible candidates, although I haven't ever heard them), Yamaha, and others that might suit you. There's even the Outlaw 1050 for $499, although it lacks the latest processing modes (DTS ES, Pro Logic II, or true Dolby EX -- although its 6.1 Surround offers a fair imitation of Dolby EX). Your budget and what you want most from it may help narrow things down, and I suspect there are a few ideas rattling around here.

Thanks for responding so quickly Gonk! If you remember me saying on the "...perfect speaker" post that my budget was $1500 for speakers. Well, I figured my budget and in order to be able to purchase speakers at that price level I'll need to drop my available purchase cost for the receiver down quite a bit. I also found out how much I was going to have to spend on wiring everything up. I had originally forgotten to factor that in. To get to the point, I guess I would have to say that my new receiver budget is somewhere under $800 or so.

Costco currently has the HK AVR 525 for $650. These are solid receivers and that price should leave you some wiggle room for whichever sub you choose [from the Outlaw to Outlaw thread].
