Well, I am the proud new owner of a 950/7100 combo, and it kicks a$$!

Now, I am spending the weekend setting everything up and for some reason I can't get my Home Theater Master MX-500 remote to "learn" the 950 remote's volume buttons. Everything else seems to work OK, I even got the VID1/SAT button programmed.

Can anybody help?

I didn't have a problem learning the volume buttons or assigning them in punch-troughs. My problem was in learning the V1 button. I solved that problem and others when I bought the IRClone utility. With it I can use "learned" codes from other MX-500 and Pronto users. There is also free utility that uses the IRClone USB IR receiver to read the codes directly from the OEM remote and convert them into MX-500 format.

My MX-500 learned everything I threw at it, including the 950's commands (not surprising, since both remotes come from the same manufacturer). It was sometimes sensitive about the orientation of the two remotes while learning.

If you are having problems with the volume buttons only, I'd check to see if you have a punch-through of some sort enabled on the device you are learning to.

That did the trick. I had the punch-through programmed wrong. Everything is working great now!

The same exact problem, Garret. Just picked up the MX-500 and it's a beauty. I use V1 (SAT) and can not get it programmed on any button on the MX.
May go the IRclone route. Already downloaded the IRClone software, as well as your file! Now to order the hardware..

The Problem with mine for vid 1 was I was holding it down when sending the command to the mx-500. I found it worked the first time time when I just tapped the button on the outlaw remote while the mx-500 was learning the command.

I may have to play with it again then. This is such a slick remote. It's a shame. there is only one function that is troublesome. I like the IRclone idea, but I don't feel like putting out another 80 bucks when I only just got the MX-500 and it does everything else so nicely. Thanks for the suggestion. Watching 'The Recruit' this will wait til tomorrow.

Ahhh! Success! Thanks again, Turkish. Your programming method worked like a champ. The MX-500 in now in the same GREAT category as my 950!!!

I said much the same thing in an e-mail back when I got mine over the summer. Great little piece of gear.
