From my partial understanding of these units, the 5100 has a couple outlets that are configured so as to not limit the current draw at those outlets, at the expense of not performing as much filtration. It's a way to help ensure that the amp(s) have enough power on hand when they really need it. If you want to download the 5100's manual , they discuss the differences some on pages 4 and 5.
