I will be using an older amp w/o 12v trigger inputs with my 1050 so I'm looking for a way to power everything up when I turn on my 1050. I looked at a Panamax 4300 which looks like it will do the trick. Does anyone have experience with this?

I've got a Panamax MAX5100 that I have set up to be triggered (simple trigger wire from 1050 or 950 to 5100) to turn on for switched outlets as soon as the 950 (and the 1050 before that) comes on and two high-current outlets (for the amps) 10 seconds later. The same trigger causes the amps to shut off at the same time as the 950 and the other four outlets to shut off 30 seconds later. Four outlets are completely unswitched. Looking at the 4300 page , I think the 4300 behaves very similarly (4 switched, 3 unswitched), but I don't know if any of its outlets are specifically intended as high-current for use with amps. I don't know how critical that is to you -- at one point I had my Model 750 on the same $30 power strip as everything else, on a circuit shared by the refrigerator, microwave, and a couple lamps, but I was very glad to get the home theater on a dedicated circuit.

Thanks Gonk, that was helpful, but can you expand upon the difference between the designated high current outlets on the model you have vs. the "normal" ones for the 4300?

From my partial understanding of these units, the 5100 has a couple outlets that are configured so as to not limit the current draw at those outlets, at the expense of not performing as much filtration. It's a way to help ensure that the amp(s) have enough power on hand when they really need it. If you want to download the 5100's manual , they discuss the differences some on pages 4 and 5.

HTML enabling isn't an option, but the UBB code works. Check out this link , or for links just either put [ url ] and [ /url ] (without the spaces between the brackets) around a URL or do [ url=link ] link description [ /url ] to include a link like I've had in some of these posts.

What Gonk said for the 5300 owners manual.
High Current not limited by noise filters.

When I picked mine up at the warehouse door
the guy that 'brung' it, stated,
"Do not plug your amp into the other outlets or it could cause damage to the amp."
Don't know if this is true, since I don't remember seeing that statement in the manuel.
The 2 high current outlets are clearly labeled.

Thanks Lena, this is verrrry interesting. The only problem is that when you call and try to find out an answer to issues like this, the c/s reps usually aren't knowledgeable at all on the subject.

OK, I just got off the phone with Panamax and here's what they (she)had to say. The main difference between a model like the 5100 & 4300 is that the jacks labeled high current have 2 distinquishing features.

1) ability to delay on/off
2) removal of some sort of voltage coil. She indicated that in order to hear this, you would most likely have to be dealig with equipment in excess of 10k for amps. She isn't saying that some might be able to hear it, but usually so. She actually has a receiver with an outboard amp and said she noticed no difference whatsoever.

So, that clears it up a little for me, but I may still go with the 5100 for the delay feature.
