I can only assume that the easy answer to this question is "yes" but I have more pointed questions:

Does the type of cable matter concerning signal degradation over longer cables runs, s-video vs. composite?
Is one better for longer runs?

Is there a "common practice" cut-off point as to cable length so the signal does not degrade too much?
(assuming use of a decent quality cable without any type of repeater)

Thanks.

Yes it does, but if you use good cables, the attenuation is negligible for runs under 100 feet or so. Good old RG-6 has very low transmission loss.

i would use the best possible cable format, because regardless of a little loss, if it starts out looking better it will always end up looking better; if it never looked good it will never. so s-vid vs composite, s-vid is the better choice.
