There isn't enough space in my entertainment center to hold all of the monoblock amps that I have in my system. I have been considering placing each amp on a stand near the speaker it powers. This would, of course, necessitate fairly long (around 20-25 ft) interconnects instead of long speaker wire runs for the rear speakers. Is this a bad idea? Part of me says no since it is quite usual to run a long cable to a powered subwoofer. But I could swear that I've read posts about it being better to run long speaker wire since they would be less susceptible to picking up noise.

What say you all? If I go this route, should I make some interconnects from RG6-U/Q coax to help protect against the cables picking up noise? Any comments would be appreciated.

It shouldn't matter. 20-25 feet is relatively short in the grand scheme of things. RG59 or RG-6 would work fine, just keep all your interconnect lines away from 120VAC wires.

Ellen,

I Agree completely with Soundhound.

Years ago I was running a bunch of strung-together and very cheap (K-Mart special) interconnects totalling over 100 feet (!) to join two systems located at opposite ends (and levels) of my house - with no noticeable degradation in sound - or stray interference.

I would not expect any problems with what you are proposing.

I have always prefered long speaker cables myself, but as the others have said, it will work without any problems. I use a very thin cheap ic from my computer to my system, about 20 feet, when I need it. I can't tell the difference, but computer sound isn't all that great to begin with.

long ics are better than long speaker wire. with monoblocks the idea is to place them close to the speakers for this very reason.
