I'm purchasing either the B&W 805 bookshelf or the 804 floorstanding speakers for my family room (dimen. 17x21 w/25 ft ceilings). Is the 950 pre/pro and the 755 a good match for B&W. 50% movies 50% music. The setup will be 5.1 in this room. Thank you.

I can't see there being any problem with pairing the 950/755 with the B&W's. I'd say go for it -- the B&W's are great speakers (I've got a co-worker with a pair of 805's in a two-channel system, and he's been very pleased with them), and the 755 should quite happily drive them.

I have a pair of B&W N803's (mains) and am very happy with them. I run them with the 950/770 combo (in a bi-amp configuration). I have listened to N805's and love them too, but there are some limitations to these smaller speakers...

While many like the simplicity of the N805's two-way design, it can not use the FST midrange driver that the three-way speakers can. In my opinion, the FST is the one of the best transducers made at any price. Play some good female vocalists and compare them before you decide. Some B&W dealers have an upgrade policy that will let you buy-up without penalty within the first 6 months to a year.

A friend of mine has the CDM9NT's, which are the predecessor of the 703's, and they also use Outlaw amplification. Both have the FST. Great speakers and a great value. You can get CDM9NT's on E-bay for less than $2000/pr.

I have a pair of Nautilus 804's and a HTM2 center channel with the 755/950 combo. For some reason the midrange in the center had a blown voicecoil after a moderately loud listening session. I subsequently had a channel in the 755 go out and had to send it back to California to have the Outlaws repair it under warranty. Don't know how much one had to do with the other, but now the configuration seems to work great together. I like the 804's, but they are extremely flat, and if you're going to use them for home theater, you absolutely need a good sub. I prefer (and have) the Velodyne HGS series subs, and the match is pretty good with the 804's. I will say this: The 804's sounded better on the Mark Levinson amp and sunfire processor in the showroom. The sound was much cleaner. For the money though, you can't do much better than the 950/755 combo so if you're not willing (like me) to spend more than $3K on your amp and processor - You can't go wrong with the Outlaw combo.
