I need help witha question. I am going to purchase a 1050 in about 6 months. Inbetwen now and then I am going to build a set of speakers for my home theater. Which leads to my question. I have a Sony DVD model DVP-C670D that does not have an onboard decoder. I will need to use the DTS decoder on the 1050. Will I be able to use the 6.1 feature or only 5.1. I need to know so I don't build the 6th speaker if I am not going to be able to use it. Thanks for any replies....

Yes you can use a sixth speaker.
No you can't use it for DTS-ES decoding, only Dolby Digital EX.

But realize, also, that the 1050's proprietary encoding for DD-EX will also extract a sixth channel from any DD 5.1 source. That's how I have mine set up. It works better on some than others, but I LOVE that center rear!

What speakers are you planning to build? In time I hope to build a set of the Audax HT speakers. If that's the road you are going down, I'll look forward to hearing your impressions of them teamed with the 1050.

Also, while it doesn't use the official DTS encoding, you can get a rear center channel out of DTS sources if you hook your DVDP to the 1050's 5.1 inputs and use the DVDP's DTS decoder to feed an analog signal to the 1050.

In short, the 1050 can generate that 6th channel from any DD and the 5.1 analog inputs.

I am either going to build the Audax HT or the DHT system from speakerbuilder.net. I just finished a set of D3's from Wayne J and I must say they are quite good. Now I am in negotiations with my wife as to what we can afford. I will keep you informed as to which way I am going to go.

I just finished the Audax Center channel. It sounds great, but large in size. I have been considering the rest of the system based on the center channel.

Also if you our budget minded check out speakerpage.com. Very affordable and decent sound. I have built a couple of their subs and towers and was very pleased.

I've also recently finished the Audax center, and I'm also looking at building the fronts. The center sounds great, but is large. Seriously consider the size of the thing and how it would look on top of your TV. As for negotiations and price, you won't come near anything of this sound quality for the money you spend, and you can custom finish it to your wifes liking.
