Hello All,

I currently own a sony v555es reciever.This receiver has done a good job so far,but i keep wondering if i add an external amp to my setup would i hear much difference? The speakers i`m using are klipsch sf2,sc1,and ss1. Any input would be greatly appreciated,thanks.

You'll probably notice an improvement, but unless your speakers are particularly power-hungry, it probably won't be a HUGE improvement.

A more substantial gain could possibly be obtained by doing the exact opposite of what you're considering: keeping the Sony's amplification and buying an external pre-amp and tuner.

In either case, you'll ultimately notice a big improvement when you move completely to separates, and both scenarios I mention above will start you on that path with minimal initial expenditure.

Thanks For Your Reply. So you mean that maybe i could try hooking a preamp to my sony and possibly get better results? I never thought of that. How would i connect a preamp to my receiver? I know this might be a stupid question,but i had to ask.

Well, if your receiver has a preamp-out/amp-in loop, you simply plug your new pre-amp into the amp-in plugs on the receiver. That way, you'll be using the new pre-amp as your pre-amp, your new tuner as your tuner, and your old receiver as your amplifier.

This is what I did when I went from my old Onkyo TX-DS939 receiver to my Lexicon MC-1. First, I replaced the pre-amp and surround processing with the MC-1. Then I replaced the amplification, and finally, I replaced the tuner and was running all seperates.
