This may sound lame, but I just watched Monsters, Inc. for the first time on my system. Unreal. The picture quality blew me away. Seemed very close to HD. And the sound was amazing as well. This DVD will be right up there with 5th Element as my favorite demo disc....

Some people would say that anything animated is not the best reference...that said...I LOVE that movie!! It just plain rocks in general. Also, the DVD release is yet another stellar Pixar production. Make sure you try out the binaural audio demo with a pair of headphones. laugh

Jason,
I know that many true videophiles would cringe at the idea of using an animated selection as a demo disc. I guess I look at it this way: I'll use whatever disc shows the true performance of my system as a demo disc. I do feel that this disc shows what a decent system can do IMHO.

Thanks for the response,

If you liked 'Monsters Inc.' then wait till you try 'The Incredibles' DVD. Truly incredible picture and sound (just won the Oscar for sound editing).

Everytime I've demo'ed my ht first to my wife, then my in-laws and family and friends I've said, "Let's watch 5 minutes of "Nemo". An hour later everyone gets up, amazed. Great sound and picture. Intelligent, too. Is "Incredibles" out yet?

'The Incredibles' comes out Tuesday (March 15th). A local store broke street date so I scooped up a copy before they realized their mistake. Should have waited a week and saved a few bucks, but I couldn't resist since it was one of my favourite movies from last year.

I think it's a good idea to use several discs to show things. Why shouldn't animated be one of them? So many of the best special effects nowadays are computer renderings anyway.

Ooohh, Incredibles. It wasn't quite as laugh out loud hilarious as I was expecting, but it was a very well done feel good show. A lot of parts brought on a big grin from the feeling of understanding.

"They keep coming up with new ways to celebrate mediocrity!"

"I found the remote!"

Whoops..my bad...didn't read the first post carefully...

Monster's Inc. is a wonderful demo for any system. In fact, at least one Pixar movie is part of every demo I give with my system. And I have to echo an earlier post, I can't watch just one part of Nemo...

Sorry for any confusion...

Does The Incredibles DVD have that freaky dancing sheep and jackalope short in it? That was messed up.

JT,

Yes, the Oscar nominated short Boundin' is on disc 2 (can be played with or without director's commentary). It's followed by a short documentary called Who is Bud Lucky that explains who the director of Boundin' is (he also did all the vocals).

I'm 40+ and the wife is 50+ and we love that show among many others similar to it. The good picture quality and bright colors are appealing to us.

It will also give the old subwoofer a good workout!
