I am looking for ideas/opinions on a clean setup for a cooling fan to keep my 1050 cool.
All my equipment is installed in a cabinet with sliding glass doors. I have tried several different fans including an external fan with an exhaust port. These setups all work well. What I am looking for now is a high quality fan for a permanent installation and a way to power it up with the receiver. I understand the trigger output cannot supply enough current for a relay, but there must be some way to make use this output.

Just off the top of my head (since I don't feel like going in the other room and digging out my manual), I wonder if the trigger output would be enough to gate an SCR.

If you want to get inventive, you could even get a small PLC and use the trigger as a discrete input. Then you could have the fan hooked up as a discrete output. Maybe an Allen-Bradley Micro Logix controller (even cheaper than a PLC).

Of course, someone probably has a simpler solution. I'll look up the specs tomorrow, I may even be able to find a relay with a coil rating low enough to operate off the trigger...

The DC trigger port provides 6 Volts DC at only 5 Milliamps. Not very much current. Hope this helps.

Ok, I found a solution for you. Opto 22 manufactures a solid state relay line with a coil operated on 3 to 32 VDC. The 6V trigger should be a perfect fit. The contact side will switch several amps of AC current so you should be able to find one to meet your needs. The prices on them range from roughly $13.00 to $35.00. Pretty cheap solution, I think. They are just a surface mount style with screw posts for terms, nice and easy.

I don't have a 1050 but I presume you have a switched 115v outlet.I ran into a similar problem trying to power up a seperate amp.Go to radio shack , you can buy a "wall wart" dc with variable output and changeable tips to match your fan(DC) , that way you can plug it into your switched outlet power up your 1050 and your fan at the same time.Should run around $20.00 or so.

I went a different way on triggering my amp, as it wouldn't work with the Outlaw trigger. I have the Monster power conditioner and it accepts an AC or DC trigger. I used my cable box's switched AC outlet to kick on the power conditioner.

In your case, you might be able to go the same route, if you have a cable box etc which has a switched outlet. I went to Northern tool and they had an assortment of pretty decent fans to run off of 110. I bought a 4.5" fan, which is noisy, but inside of a cabinet might not be a problem.

It might work in your situation.
