Just got my 1050, and so far I'm loving it... I had one question about the remote. I'm using it to control a sony dvd player. It's an older sony dvd player. It controls the dvd player fairly well, but the left and right keys don't work on the dvd menus (the up and down are fine). There's only one code listed for sony dvd players in the manual. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another code for the remote that will allow complete control?

Hi-Fi Remotes lists three Sony DVD codes: 0193, 0201, 0533 -- give those a try and see what that does for you. (Hi-Fi Remote is a site dedicated to the Cinema7 and Radio Shack remotes, and the 1050's Catalyst48 remote is from that same family of remotes).

You may or may not be interested in some of the past discussions that we've had around here about the 1050's remote -- one of the most useful such occurred in this thread . It mentions some things like the very handy volume punch-through code (993) and the very unpleasant code 981 (reset code, gives the remote a lobotomy that can not be recovered from).

I never tried it with my 1050 remote, but my 950 remote has the exact same problem with my Sony TV: up&down work, but left/right don't. I ended up using the learning function to override those keys.

I couldn't get it to work at all with my Sony DVD player... and again there is only the one code listed in the manual for it. Eventually I'm going to just "learn" all of the keys...
