just rented last samurai, and while it only offered dolby digital it was a very good movie. nice and neat and concise while still being impactful and thought provoking. plus it has quite a bit of action, but blends it in nicely with the movie. i must say that it had pretty unrealistic gunshot sounds though, maybe it was because the guns were suppposed to be from 1877 instead of what i know them to sound like in 2004...

You are right it was a thought provoking movie, and I liked it too. The only part I felt was wrong was the widow of the slain warrior falling in love with Tom Cruise. After all, Cruise did kill him and I think His wife would find no honor in loving his enemy. Even his children forgave Cruise.

Gentlemen, you’ve just witnessed the "soft side" of an outlaw…

That's ok, we are only human.

yeah but its tom cruise, come on now. most women would fall for him im sure if they were around him constantly and at such an emotional point in their life. plus he is a good guy in the movie, and she sees that after a little time.

THANK GOD they didnt focus on that too much, or it would have ruined an otherwise concentrated movie. stupid love stories always getting in the way. actually i thought it further accentuated the storyline in how they portrayed it, but im glad it was limited as it was. that is probably what i liked about the movie so much, it didnt try to overreach its bounds and be too complicated or plot twisted. it was focused on the lifestyle and struggle of samurai warriors at that point in history and reflected some of the issues that have plagued/honored warriors for eternity.

I recently watched this as well and agree with curegeorg. I enjoyed the story and it's portrayal of the Samurai's struggle to fit in with a country bent on Westernizing.

The fact that Tom Cruise's character was intrigued by these people, and desired to learn their ways, gave him a sense of peace he never had.

The soundtrack was decent, but no DTS!

Some kid just requires his daddy to give him a proper education. Without a doubt...
