Hey MeanGene. As far as picture quality, IMAX DVD's seem equal to Superbit DVD's. It is difficult to see what is created better, because the IMAX DVD's contain so much color and spectacular cinematography. Granted they sqeeze down the aspect ratio, from the IMAX 70mm film and camera to a 16:9 image. All IMAX DVD's do offer superior, sometimes speaker damaging sonics. You gotta try "Super Speedway". In this DVD they have an IMAX camera mounted on top a Indy 500 race car. It puts any system thru a workout. "Ring of Fire" is dynamic and its bass extention can rock the neighborhood. It is about earthquakes and volcano eruptions. All-in-all IMAX standards for sound and picture quality exceed Dolby, DTS and even THX. Try one, you will be impressed.
