Take the 1070 and make it with more power.

In a way, they already have: the 970/7125 combo does this very thing for $700 more than the 1070. Receivers always have to include compromises to fit good amp sections, a robust power supply, and the pre-amp bits and brains into one chassis - the best way to get the kind of power that a receiver like the 1070 offers (65x7 with all channels driven) is to go to two chassis. The alternative, of course, is to look at what Denon does - the 5930 is almost as tall as it is wide (I exaggerate, but it's still huge, even by the standards of a Model 990 owner).

The Sherwood R-965 is the receiver version of the P-965 processor. The 990 is based on the P-965 platform, although they added the balanced pre-amp outputs, the DVI switching, and they re-wrote much of the software to incorporate things like the quadruple crossover and a cleaner user interface.

The 1070/970 is a platform developed from the ground up by Outlaw and Eastech (the company that builds them for Outlaw).
