There is definately a need for mixed power in a home theater. Therefore and amp like the 7100, but with 4x100 and 3x200 watt amps in the same unit, you would better serve what is really required by users.

Alternatively, come out with a smaller Monoblock, so people could buy a package with mixed 200 and 100 watt units or even 65 watt would be great for most surround channels.

if your 7 amp special could be 3x200 and 4x100 at $1299.00, I think a lot of people would go separates. Packaged with a 990! Man, perfection...

How about this?

Four channels of the 7100 drive the surround speakers full-range. Three channels of the 7100 drive the high frequencies on bi-amped mains and center. Three M200's drive the low frequencies on the bi-amped mains and center.

Not bad, but I think I would go for 7x M200's which is the same price as what you suggested and call it a day.. wink

The idea I was thinking of should be about $400 cheaper..

a mixed power amp is a bad idea from the standpoint of being able to sell it. MOST people have speakers rated at similar wattage range, and those that dont can always bi-amp/wire their fronts... i presume they wouldnt sell very well at all. producing a monoamp is an excellent way to have good flexibility.

Having the watt rating doesn't mean you are going to use it. If you are talking movies, there is a lot less output to the surrounds than the rest of the system. Reference http://www.linkwitzlab.com/surround_speaker.htm

But I do agree the monos would be a more flexable choice. I don't know if Outlaw could manufacture them a lot cheaper. Which would mean it would not be worth it from their standpoint..
