Before ordering my 1050, I did a Google search for reviews, etc. Somewhere along the line I downloaded a newsletter-type thing from a Taiwan company called Eastech. It's a .pdf file, and it got lost amongst all the stuff I had downloaded. But I took a look at it tonight.

In there, this company refers to the Outlaw 1050 as the Eastech Model RC999 and states that it is "currently manufactured for an American company, Outlaw, Inc., and is retailed under the brand name Outlaw 1050." They make it sound as if this is their product, and Outlaw Audio more-or-less just sells it under the Outlaw name.

I know Outlaw outsources its manufacturing, and I realize it doesn't really make any difference who developed/designed this receiver, but I'm just curious.......

David,

Outlaw Audio designed the Model 1050 and then hired EasTech to manufacture it for them. They negociated a deal with EasTech that allows EasTech to offer the 1050 to other companies (after a period of exclusivity for the designers - aka: Outlaw Audio) that resulted in an appreciabley reduced manufacturing cost for Outlaw.

Hmm, I thought that was the 950, didn't know it applied to the 1050 too. Interesting.

Matt,

It's been known since day one that the 1050 was manufactured over in Malasia. However the connection to EasTech wasn't know to us customers until someone (Razvan?) over on HTF found a picture of the EasTech RC999 and put two & two together.

Wasn't that Razvan fellow the one who got banned somewhere? I remember RAF saying something like AZRyan's name sounded similar...

Yes, that's the gent. To the best of my knowledge, he was banned from HTF for "inappropriate comments".

Thanks for the info. Sounds like Eastech "fudged" a little in their description of their arrangement with Outlaw. I think the Eastech document I downloaded was intended mainly for investors
