Hi All,

I am curious how folks are getting new music now. Are you still purchasing CD's or have you gone all digital? If all digital, are you only using lossless formats?

Thanks Bob

I have over 5000 songs in my digital library but they wee all taken from some of the 1000+ CD's I own. I have never downloaded any music because I the quality is horrible.

If I want new music I but the CD, usually from Amazon, and then make a lossless copy for my digital library.

My wife buys some from iTunes, but I still buy CD's.

I have a very large "collection" of CDs and MP3s (~20000 songs). Keep em on a 1 TB external harddrive for use anywhere I want with a PC and all of them on my iPod. I can go for months and never hear the same song twice. I use iTunes for control and yes it is a pain keeping them in a logical order.

I generally take my CDs (old or new purchases) and record them in a lossless format for use over my Sonos system. However, I have purchased some digital albums from Concord Records, which sells DRM-free MP3s recorded at 320 kbps and has a line of digital-only releases for out-of-print recordings. Not perfect, but at least it gives me access to music not readily available otherwise. For my iPod Touch, I use some compression because of limited storage capacity.

I purchase CD's and rip all into FLAC on my PC, I stream through my Squeezebox. Never have purchased a digital copy, only hard copies and I rip. All is backed up on an external as well.

Outside of FLAC, we stream internet radio about 30% of the time.

Thanks guys. My plan is to go FLAC with Squeezebox as well although it may be some time before I get that all worked out.

Amazon seems to have CD's when I need them but the CD seems to be a dying breed at the local retail outlet. I am curious, can you get a lossless format from ITunes's or is it all compressed?

I still buy CDs - which the last I knew were digital - but wouldn't turn down high-quality LPs, which nowadays probably start out as digital masters before being converted to analog.

Has anybody here or anywhere got analog CDs or digital LPs?

To the best of my knowledge, songs bought from iTunes are all compressed. The iTunes application itself does support lossless encoding through the Apple Lossless Encoder, which is what I use to rip CDs.

I'm still buying mostly SACDs and a few CDs. I don't record anything online, though some of the downloads from 2L an HDTRACKS look tempting.
