My son has had this for several years and while it still works fine he misses not having remote control of the volume and inputs plus having a tuner would be nice.

He is considering the RR2150 but still doesn't want to rule out a surround receiver since he watches alot of movies. His stereo/media room is pretty small so the movies in just stereo sound pretty good despite only having two speakers.

He has pretty good equipment Ryan speakers (my old speakers, lower high end), Oppo 980, Tivo HD and 50" plasma. All sound is ran through the Acurus and sounds awfully so don't want to take a step down in sound.

So for the price of the RR2150 can you get anywhere near the build quality and performance with a surround receiver? I have a 990 so I know the quality of Outlaw products.

If he got a RR2150 there wouldn't be an upgrade path to surround sound later on would there?

I don't know anything about the Acurus, so I don't know how it would compare to the 2150. There's always the option of the 30-day trial from Outlaw, so if it didn't life up to the standard set by the Acurus he could return it and just be out shipping cost.

I doubt you'd find a surround receiver in the 2150's price range that offers comparable build quality or analog performance - the amp section in particular will be (by necessity of available space and budget) less robust on such a surround receiver. There's not a practical upgrade path to surround sound with the RR2150, though.

Thanks for the reply Gonk! The Acurus is a 100 watts per channel (very conservatively rated), well built integrated amp made by Aragon that got rave reviews and came out in 1993 for $1000. I actually didn't realize it was that old wow I guess it is time for an upgrade and I'm sure the 2150 would compare or beat something that old.

I have noticed though that the 2150 doesn't seem to have as many inputs as my son needs. He needs inputs for a dvd, cd, sat receiver, and Tivo since he currently runs the audio from each into his Acurus.

Am I missing something because it looks like the 2150 only has 3 rear inputs?

Does the USB input of the 2150 involve anything more than running a USB cable between it and your computer?
