Okay I am sure this has been hashed over alittle bit on here but I can't find the answer. I want to run my DAC into the 5.1 inputs so it bypasses the 1050's DAC. Obviously when I do this I loose all my bass. My sub is sitting here useless unless I can find a way to get my sub back in the picture. My sub is powered and has its own variable crossover. Please help!

Ok I read some more posts and it seems that the 1050 will not let you run your sub when your listening to stereo in the 5.1 mode. Which I find completely assinine to be honest. There should be away to play my dac with the sub to. Looks like I got to go by a damn preamp now. Pissed to say the least. I hope there is a work around.

Do you have high level inputs for your sub? If you do you could hook it up that way. If your sub amp doesn't have high level inputs and crossover adjustment; you're out of luck.

By definition, a 5.1 channel direct input bypasses all electronic processing. The fact that it does not allow bass management is part of the nature of the beast. I know of no $500 receiver that has a a 5.1 channel direct input that allows bass management.

You do have options, one of which is mentioned in the 1050 manual. Read the last paragraph on the bottom left of page 26.

Another option is for you to go with the ICBM which will give you a true 5 channel analog crossover for your DAC. The 1050 has no analog crossover circuitry in it which is why you lose bass management when you bypass the DSP with the 5.1 input.

It's not asinine. To have included full ICBM functinality in the 1050 would have raised its price by several hundred dollars, and the Outlaws simply made a business decision that it wasn't worth it. Even the mighty 950 only has a fixed 80 Hz crossover on the analog inputs... still far short of what you'd get from the ICBM or from the digital crossover circuitry.

Some of the REALLY high-end processors will let you use the DSP processing on the 5.1 inputs... but then again, if you do that, you're losing the benefits of your external DAC completely.

dude, there is an easy solution to this. use the L/R preouts (NOT the subLFE out) to the sub. This will mean adding another subwooker cable, and a getting a splicer to join the L/R outs to one cable(Monster makes them). most subs have 2 inputs, so this shouldn't too much of a problem. you don't need a stinkin preamp.

That would give you an LPF for the sub, if it's got one built in (not all do), but it won't give you the HPF for the mains. You'll have bass doubled.
