Greetings all,

I would like to know from all of you which connection you feel is better for playing movies going into the Outlaw 1070/970/990?

My DVD player has both Coax and Optical out. I will be hooking the coax up to a tube DAC for playing Read Book Cds. I will use the analog out for HDCD, SACD, DVD audio.

I have a .5 meter of Kimber Kable Toslink that I want to use for movies yet I want to know if the sound qaulity will be worse, better or no diffent?

I use an Outlaw PDO for my Ps2 and it works great.

So, for movies is the Coax better than optical in your systems?

Please let me know.

Liz

Use the coax. You can probably find it with pure silver conductors. wink

Hi altec,

The coax will be used by the DAC and I hate pulling and swithing cables. I can as I have the Stereovox Xv2 in use and one coming in for the DAC.

After seeing this debated numerous times and using both types cables, I've had a very hard time hearing a real difference between the two. I've read a theory that optical could be better on long runs and/or runs subject to EM interference, since the light doesn't care about EM or need shielding. My standard advise is to use what is available (considering unused inputs on the receiver, outputs on the source, and available cables).

I'll second Gonk's opinion. Both interfaces are digital and as long as the bits get there correctly it's not really important how they travel.

It sort of reminds me of the early days of CD and the promotion of the "MAGIC" green marker that you would use to color the edge of the disc to improve the sound quality.

To crib from another thread, can you tell from the form of the characters in this post whether the bits came through dialup, DSL, cable modem, or a dedicated T-3 line? As long as they get there without errors bits are bits.

Actually the use of that green marker was defensible on technical grounds. Earlier CD players were more prone to jitter than ones we can purchase today. The green marker attenuated the side-scatter of the laser within the CD, which caused increased jitter in some players, mine included. The marker lessened the problem.

Trust Altec to know that a green marker really did something and why.
Where is the mystery ?
The romance ?

Of course Altec forgot to mention that the Green Marker with pure emeralds in the mixture provided a reception that was "crystal" free of jitter and much better than the marker mixture with jade fragments. While noticably more refined than a normal green marker, the jade mixture did not have the same transparency that the emerald mixture provided.

Didn't the emerald Green Marker come in a silver case?
