Picked up a DVD player yesterday, (Panasonic RP 56 - seemed like the best value). I can't believe the difference in the movies! The 1050 was impressive before with the VCR but it knocked my shorts off! I just seems to repropduce the sound so effortlessly! I connected the dvd player to the 1050 with the Outlaw's fiber-optic cable and my 15 year old Sony TV with a Monster S-Video cable. I made the right choice!!!

Yes you did! Aren't DVD's cool? Make sure you look for anamorphic (or any other indication of enhanced for 16x9 widescreen) titles if you have a choice. Those will give you the best resolution when/if you ever upgrade to a widescreen set.

Actually, the anamorphic picture won't help you at all, but it will help ME! Please send a message to the studios that we want everything in anamorphic!

And welcome to DVD! What do you think of your RP56? It is a great performer but not very user friendly.

This my first DVD player. What could be easier about the RP setup? Love the picture and audio.

Some folks really don't like the Panasonic DVD player setup/interface. My first player was (and still is, at least for a while longer) a Panasonic A310, and I've always very much liked the interface. We have a Toshiba SD1600 in the bedroom, and when I was messing with it recently I realized that I still preferred the Panasonic. Some of it is personal preference, though.

I'm looking forward to the new Panasonics supposedly coming out this summer. Things like imporved MP3 CD playback with an on-screen display, etc. Also thinner & sexier.
