Hi all, Santa is bringing me an early gift, an A3 HD player. I've been researching them a little bit and was wondering if there is anything I should know about. I have seen something about discs freezing or locking up but the most recent firmware is suppose to fix this, should I download the firmware now so that when it comes I will be ready? thanks outlaws. Loopy

My HD-A1 pauses every once and a while, but clearing the player's Persistent Storage in the Set-up menu stops this.

Loopy: Thanks. So do you think Toshiba rushed the product out too soon? I don't think that it should be up to the consumer to troubleshoot and fix their problems..
I just wonder if bluray has any such problems requiring updates.
I'm still waiting for HD player. thanks.

The reasons I went with HD dvd is amazon is having a ten free disc special and it seems almost every Sony product I"ve ever owned has had some sort of problem . In my opinion yes I think they rushed out too soon, but like sehnzeleid said HD DVD has had a finalized spec. since launch

Been slow to pull trigger, but getting closer. So, it appears from the above that toshiba would be a reasonable entry choice, especially considering the 10 discs.
And I checked. Netflix has both formats to go.
So...if I chose Toshiba, I would like to know, please which model is the most up-to-date and "bullet-proof". Of course I would only choose 1080p.
TIA.

I think you have to go to the A30 to get 1080p, the A3 is 1080I. looks to be about $50 to $60 more for the A30.
