Monster new amp and 2 new subwoofers on the way!

" The two new Outlaw products in the chain are the Model 7900 multichannel amplifier and multiple LFM-1EX subwoofers.

At $3500, the Model 7900 is a new high price point for Outlaw, but if offers seven channels of amplification at 300W per channel into 8 ohms and 450Wpc into 4 ohms (all channels driven). The 125 lb amp (half again as heavy as the Outlaw LFM-1EX subwoofer, below!) requires two separate power cords, and Outlaw also recommends a separate circuit for each, if possible. The amp will be available in June.


The LFM-1EX subwoofer ($649, July), an upgrade on the LFM-1, is said to offer response down to 16Hz in its maximum extension configuration or an output of up to 118dB (!) in-room down to 22HZ in the maximum output mode. (The modes are changed by plugging or unplugging a second port). It has a 350W BASH amp driving a 12-inch long-throw driver

The new LFM-1 Compact subwoofer ($399, July) features a 10-inch woofer and 225W BASG amplifier in a relatively compact enclosure."

What a pity Outlaw didn't take this opportunity to go small and smart instead of big and dumb and make a 7-channel digital amp suitable for high sensitivity crossoverless speakers of the Lowther type: 70w out (plenty for such speakers) from <100w in - think of the heat and carbon saved. Hey everybody - can't you spell GLOBAL WARMING or don't you care? How about 21st century thinking instead of 20th?

Anyone who's offended by "big and dumb": wake up and smell the carbon.

Well, then the 7075 is for you.

First, Outlaws recent speakers are pretty inefficient, so a low power amp leading their line-up was out of the question. Second, the outlaw logo is a cowboy. Third, just like every amp, house, car, or developing country, eco-friendlyness costs extra. Unless the EPA steps in on electronics (Which they might when it comes to 'standby' power usage), this is going to be a consumer-driven choice.

The 7900 has been in the cards for some time, but had to return to the drawing board for a re-design to deal with heat rejection. I can't imagine it will be a huge seller for them, as the market for 7x300W amps has to be on the small side, but there has been interest in such an amp ever since one first cropped up a few years ago. Outlaw has mentioned a number of years ago that they're keeping an eye on digital switching amps but don't want to get serious one about one until the technology improves a bit more and they can do it at a cost-effective price point without a compromise in sound quality.

The subs sound interesting, but there's also some info on the center channel speaker (officially called the Outlaw LCR speaker) and bookshelf speaker that looks pretty intriguing.
