Once again, Outlaws have set out for the annual Home Entertainment Show. Folks in the New York City area can stop in and see what they've got going on this year, but the rest of us are left watching from a distance. As has become something of a tradition, I'm starting this thread as a place for folks to post reports or pictures from the show. Anybody who comes away with pictures from the show and doesn't have an easy way to post them can PM me and I'll add them to this page and this thread.

It looks like we have some official word on the four new product announcements:

Model 7900: 7x300W amp, two power supplies, 125 pounds, $3,500, available in June. Links: Ultimate AV

LFM-1 EX: "upgraded LFM-1" with 350W amp, extension down to 16Hz or 22Hz (depending on mode, similar to LFM-1 Plus), and up to 118dB of extension in high output mode, $649, available in July. Links: Ultimate AV

LFM-1 Compact: 10" sub with 225W amp, $399, available in July. Links: Ultimate AV

Outlaw LCR Speaker: MTM-style speaker with same 1" tweeter as the Bookshelf and two of the same 5.25" woofers as the Bookshelf, same boundary compensation switch as the Bookshelf, and a separate switch to select different crossovers for vertical and horizontal orientations, $700. Links: 1 , 2 , and 3 from Ultimate AV.

I'll add more to this post as I come across more coverage online...

Thanks for posting the info Gonk. It looks like the 7900 may be a rebadged ATI 3007 which would certainly take care of anyones need for a beefy amp. The LCR speaker answered two questions really: would Outlaw have a center channel and surrounds? The LCR takes care of the fronts including the center and the Bookshelf speakers look like they would be nice surrounds. I wonder if they will offer their new subs in veneer to match the LCR and Bookshelf speakers?

Hello everyone,

This is just a short note to say that the new Outlaw 7900 is not a rebadged ATI 3007. It is a completely new design that was only completed late last week.

Best regards,

Peter Tribeman

Peter,

Thanks for clarifying the 7900's pedigree. I imagine it will be a hit just as the other Outlaw amps have been.

Look forward to hearing a bit more about the 7900, Peter - mighty monstrous amp by the looks of it.

7x300? Two power supplies? Do you need to place this in the basement on the slab? Or do you need to build a support pillar under the floor where this monster will sit? shocked

Wish I could be down in NYC this weekend. Alas ... I'm in class all weekend this and next.

Wow! Hell, I'd have to live in the 7900. Pretty overwhelming piece of gear…which is the point I guess.

LFM-1 EX: A reworked HSU VTF3 Mk 3, perhaps?

Since the subs are built overseas and the speakers are assembled domestically, I'm guessing that achieving matching veneers would be a daunting challenge to say the least. The black finish offered for the Bookshelf (and certainly for the LCR as well) should be a very good match for the LFM's, at least.

They're probably cousins in some regard, at least, since Outlaw has worked with HSU on their subs ever since the LFM-1. I suspect that Outlaw stuck with their bottom porting configuration, though, which differs from HSU's rear ports (which Dr. Hsu hangs on to in part because it is the only way for his turbo add-on to work).

So what is the deal that is supposed to "knock our eyes out"? Still a mystery to me at this point. Anyone have any ideas?

Go figure, I've been waiting forever for Outlaw to put out a sub somewhere in-between the LFM-1 and LFM-2. I finally broke down and got and LFM-1 Plus because of the great price break and now out comes the 10" compact. I was waiting for the wife to flip out when I dragged the box in the front door. But she liked the appearance when I opened it. I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the performance.

The "knock your eyes out" part of the show was the Sony Qualia 70-inch SXRD rear screen projector We have access to the remaining inventory of arguably the best rear screen set ever built. They were originally $14,000 and we offered one at the show for $5995. Visitors to our room were taken with the astounding picture. (We were running a Blu-ray presentation of Planet Earth) We will discuss more of that with our show wrap-up newsletter.

Did you see the dimensions for that monster? 9.5" tall and 19.5" deep - makes the 990's hugeness seem merely a tad big by comparison. smile That's a whole lotta amp...

By the way, I checked out Tom Norton\'s "Best of Show" remarks and noticed this comment: "Outlaw Audio clearly won the home theater prize"

I think the only things we really haven't heard from the show are when the LCR's might start shipping and what this year's "Outlaw Tschotska" was. I suspect that one or both might crop up in the wrap-up newsletter that Peter mentioned this morning.

I re-iterate ... I think a real foundation might be required ... similar to one to support a soapstone fireplace! smile

So what's the difference between my LFM-1 Plus and the new LFM-1 EX?

It looks like the LFM-1 EX is using a larger enclosure (2" wider and 2" deeper), for one thing. Check out this press release for details. There's also a press release for the LFM-1 Compact .

Everyone,

We are flattered that we were chosen for this comparison We also fared quite well in the company of several respected companies. There are, however, differences between what was measured for all of those subs and the stated claims of each manufacturer. In our case, both Dr. Hsu and we are certain of our measurements. We had them verified by two different engineers in two different facilities.
Tom Nousaine has set his own environment and methodology for his testing.

In any event for a discussion of the article and Nousaine's approach, please visit here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=851755

There you will find comments from several readers and one of Dr Hsu's staff
