Friend calls and tells me he recently got a HDTV. Not sure what kind. Tells me that HDTVs all need to be calibrated by tech with instruments.

Anybody know if true.
Sony said about my SXRD: "NO"

Professional ISF calibration is not a bad thing, but I wouldn't call it necessary - it's more of a final tweak to get the last few percent of performance out of the display. I would say that it is essential to calibrate with a disc like DVE or AVIA, which will get you the first 50% or more of the potential performance (depending on just how bad the factory settings are).
