Does anyone know where I can download the MX 800 programming software now that Universal has taken it off their website? Like a dummy I didn't make a backup copy and now need to load it on a new computer. (Still have the old computer, but its days may be numbered.) Thanks!

Bob

Have you tried emailing them (URC)?

It's quite a pain. I've got a mirror of a fairly recent version of the MX-700 software in my MX-700 review , but you might be better off opening the battery compartment and using the serial number to download the last version of the software. There's a page that will allow it, if I can find the darn link. It's somewhere in this thread , but I can't find it at the moment.

Gonk/MeanGene -- Thanks for your responses. I found the registration link on p. 14 of the AVS thread, Gonk, put in my serial number and got the software. I will say that URC would not be my choice of remote provider in the future, howevermuch I like my MX-800.

Best -- Bob

Glad to found the link, Bob. I'm also quite disappointed in URC's recent policy changes...

As an update, I also heard back from Bluedo.com, where I purchased my MX-800. If you are a Bluedo purchaser, they will provide a download of the MX Editor that has the Live Update feature activiated.

I've had good luck with buying from Bluedo - I'm glad to hear that they are doing as they should be in this case.

I just finished reading some (it's over 60 pages long!) of the thread at remote central. I really feel sorry for the people who bought their remotes from authorized dealers that subsequently went out of business. URC's response to these people is the epitome of arrogance and poor customer service. I am also currently rethinking my decision to upgrade my remote to one of the newer URC models, since even if I buy from an authorized dealer I may be left in the cold in the future if they go under.

I hear you, morphsci. I'm hoping my MX-800 lasts a good long time, but it's likely to be the last URC product I buy.

I went to the site and DL'd the software but it still does not allow you to update the software unless you have an invitation code which I am now trying to obtain from SurfRemoteControl which is an AD. I assume that the new software will allow updated once I have the code?
