I added a five chanel amp to my system last weekend, now I have "noise" coming out of the unused chanels when in 2 chanel stereo mode. It's not very loud but it is noticible, and it's driving me nuts. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it.

What 5 channel amp are you using with your 1050? What speakers are you using? When you say "noise", do you mean hiss or hum?

By hiss, I mean noise primarily heard from your speakers tweeters. By hum, I mean noise primarily heard from your speakers woofers.

The amp is a Marantz MM9000 THX 150X 5. The noise sounds like the pink noise from a test tone. The center channel is a Def Tech C/L/R 1000 the surrounds are Polk RT35. Thank you,

D

Could be a ground loop hum. I've struggled some with that myself with my 750 -- the refrigerator was on the same circuit as the amp for a long time, and it and the cable TV have conspired from time to time to give me some trouble. Some people recommend lifting the ground on the amp with a cheater plug, but that's probably best left as a last resort and/or temporary solution as it is not the safest thing to do.

I had/have the same problem. After speaking to Scott (nearly a year ago, as I recall) he said there may be just a little hiss present, but it should be inaudible unless you are truly near the speaker or the volume is up extremely high and the music goes silent. Mine was worse, but still not obvious to most people. I bought the Monster HTS5000, which made the hiss practically disappear. I honestly have to be within 1 foot or so to hear it now. I think that was the hiss Scott was talking about.

I agree that the majority of the problems seem to be power related, not 1050 related, but even in the perfect situation, you will likely still have an extremely minute hiss. A couple of troubleshooting things I tried prior to deciding on the power conditioner was to unplug everything but the 1050 and the amp and then add components back in until the hiss got worse. For me, the TV was the culprit, but its old and a bit rough around the edges at times.

Hope this helps.

Thank's for the help! I decided to use my two mono blocks to drive the front L/R speakers instead of the rear surrounds. This way if I'm listening to music I can just turn off the 5 channel amp and the noise is gone. I realize this is not a real solution to the problem but it works.

Actually, that sounds like the best solution of all, as you have no wasted power running extra channels that are not needed. Not to mention the extra on time that the unused channels are subject to. Less heat, less use, best call.
