I’m looking to buy the 990 with the 7125. I’ll project a screen against one of the walls. The room in my basement is 16’ X 35’. I would like go with in-walls because we have 4 small children. I think that is the way for me to go. I have reached a point of paralysis through analysis. I could use some recommendations for some in-walls to pair up with the 990 and the 7125.

Axiom is a good choice, and their in-wall line are pretty interesting looking. Other good brands to consider would probably be B&W and Paradigm - both offer in-wall speakers and have a reputation for making very nice speakers.

What about on-wall vs in-wall? Does anyone think there is a major difference? That could be a compromise.

My understanding is that most on-wall speakers (and some in-wall speakers) provide their own enclosure. Many in-wall speakers just use the wall cavity for the enclosure. Having the enclosure designed by the same folks picking the drivers and the crossover components is going to give a more consistent and accurate end result. For the fronts and center, I'd probably lean toward on-wall or in-wall with their own enclosure. For surrounds, I might be more comfortable with a simpler in-wall.

I have an M&K inwall system. A pair of SW-95s are my mains and a pair of SW-85s are my surrounds. I have the S150 as my center speaker which sits in the HT armoire. All speakers are powered by Outlaw amps (a 755 and a pair of M200s). I couldn't be more pleased with the results of this system. If you're in it for HT, the M&Ks are extremely accurate. Auditioning an M&K regular speaker system should give you a fair idea of what the inwalls sound like.

I'd also suggest you shy away from inwall subs. The placement of the sub is quite critical and you shouldn't limit your options despite having kids. My kids (and wife) were trained at a very early age not to mess with daddy's subwoofers.

I'll second the excellent advice about subs and allowing for adjustable sub placement - in-wall subs can be done (just ask charlie here in the forum about his old house), but it takes a good bit more planning than in-wall speakers. I'd also add that a downfiring sub like the LFM's are very kid- and pet-resistant. My cats will perch on it or use it as a step up onto the entertainment center and my daughter will occasionally pat the top, but none of them have tried to reach under it and poke at the driver or stick things in the ports. All I have to do is wipe off the kitty footprints and toddler handprints on the plexi top from time to time...
