Besides:
1. selecting the wrong digital input 2. getting into 6.1 mode w/o a 6.1 source 3. selecting the wrong digital output off the DVD player
What else can get misconfigured to where there is not any digital sound??????????? Radio & analog sources work fine, little triangle indicating DD/DTS/etc is blinking, which indicates no digital on the current input.
My Dad does this to his HT about every 6 to 9 months.......

Gonk,so let me ask you,if on digital cable you do not have dolby digital playing, does it switch automatically to dolby pro?The reason being is that some channels are in dolby digital, and some are not.

Actually, I'm pretty sure on the earlier 1050s, switching to 6.1 when playing a 5.1 source WOULD knock off the sound (he has a 5.0 speaker system, BTW). I remember Outlaw putting out a bug report on some 6.1 oddities, though I don't remember if it was fixed in later production runs.
Still unresolved, so lets keep the (much appreciated) ideas flowing!

I saw a similar thread over at HTF that hadn't produced any results, either. Still unresolved? If so, maybe we can dig out a few more details. I'm under the impression that every six months or so this happens to your dad's 1050. How do you resolve it typically? Wait it out? Turn stuff on/off? Mess with settings? I'm just wondering if there might be something there that could offer some hints. Also , are we only dealing with a DVD player as digital source, or does this also affect some other sources (CD, for example)? By the way, there is a bug with some 6.1 soundtracks (see these two threads). It affected a number of 6.1-capable receivers, primarily Onkyo and Denon. It was resolved on the 1050 by the recommendation that all users enable their center surround speaker, even if there is not one installed. ------------------ Gonk[This message has been edited by gonk (edited March 13, 2002).]

I haven't had a chance to really figure out what my digital cable box is doing with it's digital output, but apparently if it does not have a digital signal (if it's playing one of the analog stations below 100, and the broadcast does not include digital/HD content), then the digital output is left idle (may even transmit an empty signal, which would mean that receivers that might otherwise take the hint and switch to analog inputs would keep on listening to the digital input). If the signal is digital (some major network programming and any station above 100), it will provide a digital signal. In most cases, of course, that signal is not DD5.1, but probably DD2.0... This is all still speculation and a little online research still, though. I plan to dig into it more later. ------------------ Gonk

Yes gonk, that was me on HTF. :^)
I was kinda hoping for an outlaw to step in when I posted over here, but oh well.
Anyhow, the past occurences have been due to my 1-2-3 list. Dear, sweet Dad claims all he did was pause or turn off the movie, and presto, no sound. They typically get resolved by my making a road trip, but I was trying to short-circuit that.
There is an analog CD player & vcr player hooked up, which of course works fine. I'm still convinced its something along the lines of digital input or outputted signal, cause the digitial signal triangles are blinking, which the manual reports as not having a digitial signal on the selected input.
I'm just thankful the internet lets me browse the manual & look at pictures online, so I can tell him press the 2nd button from the left, label X, etc. But I'm thinking a road trip is in the works.
Thanks for the help! I'll figure it out once I make it over there, I was just hoping for an obvious one some other owner ran across.
