Is there any way to play the front main speakers full range, along with having the sub on at the same time, while playing CDs? The bass management system doesn't seem to allow it, and it appears you can't use the sub either with the CD digital input bypass option. Or, am I missing something? I've only had this receiver for 2 days, some I'm still getting used to it. Thanks.

No, there isn't a way to do both at once. This isn't an issue for me, because I have tried both ways, with sub and full frequency, and have found that I can make them sound pretty much the same aside from the addition of frequencies below the 60Hz region, where I set the cross-over. On a previous pair of speakers I was forced to set the cross-over to 80Hz due to some resonance in the speaker cabinets, but they are out of the loop now. Many recievers only give a 100Hz cross-over without giving the consumer the choice and this would now be unacceptable to me. Sometimes I do listen to CDs through the direct in and sometimes just use the CD player as a transport for the Outlaw's DACs, I find the direct method to be a bit warmer and the DAC method to give a bit more detail and volume but it is mostly a matter of taste.

Actually, there is a way to play the front main speakers full range, along with having the sub on at the same time, while playing CDs. I do it all the time with my 1050 & it sounds GREAT!
I use a Rel Strata III sub. It is connected to my (Bryston 4B ST) amp, which is driven by my 1050. BTW, my Rel is also connected to the LFE output of the 1050.
I then set the output to 5.1 Channel Direct. This gives me true 20Hz output from CDs. I love my Rel!

Pbacker, you're welcome. I have a feeling my answer really didn't help much, though. There are a few other brands of subwoofers that hook up in ways similiar to the Rel subs. Some are very expensive, at least one (Vandersteen 2Wq) is about the same price. BTW, the Vandersteen is a darn good sub.
FWIW, I have a Sunfire True Sub MkII sitting idle/unconnected because I can't hook it up the way my Rel does. Compared to the Strata III, it sounds terrible on music, anyway.
What brand is your sub?

I've got a Velodyne VA1012X sub with a 10 inch front firing woofer and a 12 inch down firing radiator. Amp is rated at 100 watts with a peak load of 250 watts possible. It is a very musical sub, very tight, controlled bass. With a little moving around of of my front speakers (Pinnacle Classic Gold Reference), and playing with the crossovers on the 1050, I think I now have a pretty seamless integration. It's amazing what the 1050 can do when hooked up properly.

Ok, this should work but I won't try it for a couple of weeks and it requires an extra amp or receiver. 1. CD into 5.1 stereo in. 2. Main speakers set on large, though it doesn't matter in direct mode. 3. Line level pre-amp stereo out to second amp or reciever. When I try it will be an Onkyo receiver with its own line level sub out and a set cross-over of 100Hz 4. Sub out of second amp/reciever and use the internal cross-over on the sub to set to taste. 5. Play in direct mode. Should give full main speakers plus the proper lower frequencies through the sub once calibrated.
