Was thinking of upgrading to the 990 a while back, but it just wasn't enough to make me part with my 950. Now the 970 is out. I like the new features and I don't need all the features of the 990. One thing I might need is dual 12v triggers. I am using the 2nd Zone as a trigger for some of the amps. Let me know what you think.

What's $400 between friends? 8-)

They seem to use the same DAC and have similar specs (other than the number of various inputs/outputs).

Cheers,

Based on their physical size, if nothing else, I have to believe that the 990 and the 1070/970 platform are quite different, even though some of the features are the same.

They use the same DSP, but I think they are using different DAC's (Analog Device AD1852 24-bit/192kHz for the 990 and I'm not sure what for the 970).

I think this is a great idea, so I'm curious to see how it catches on.

The one thing that would keep me from buying the 970 right now is the single 12v trigger. Because my system is running around 4000W I have to use two Panamax's one supplies the Outlaw 950 and M200 for regular TV watching. Cable box to components and center channel dialog. The 950 turns on the first Panamax for this. Then I use the 2nd Zone trigger to turn on the other Panamax which runs the surround amps and sub amps. I am not sure how I would configure a 970 to do this.

Could you split the signal and send the one trigger to both?

Accessory stuff from Niles or Sonance ought to do the trick for relay controlled 12V trigger boxes.

I could do that but you wouldn't be able to just watch TV without the surrond amps turning on. Most of the time we just watch TV with the M200 and center channel. The 950, M200, TV, and cable box with component is turned on via the 950's 12v trigger. Then I use the 2nd zone trigger to turn on the rest. I will take a look at those sites and see what I can find.
