I currently have a 950 pre/pro and rotel 1075 amp and am currently considering speakers from ascend acoustics.I was recently informed at a local "audio store" that this combination would be overkill for these particular speakers.I'm sort of confused right at the moment.The ascends are rated at much higher wattage than the rotel can put out, or is he implying that the processor is the overkill culprit?Am I getting some bias information here, or does his advise hold water? Any advise from those in the know would be greatly appreciated!Hope I have the right forum. Thanks

The 1075 is not a huge amp (120W), and based on the efficiency of the Ascends I'd think it was a good match. Personally I think the sales guy's comment is highly suspect. If you like the Ascends' sound, your system should be able to make excellent use of them.

I would love to hear back from you in this thread macquinny, regarding how you like the 1075 with the Ascends. Are you going with the 340 mains or the 170's?

gonk, have you heard the Ascends? What did you think about them? I have a 1075 too and was considering Ascends along with other much higher priced speaker brands...

I have not heard Ascend speakers, but there are a few folks in the saloon who do. Eddie Horton has a set on his mains (driven by a pair of M200's), CadBoy runs some, and so does Q-Man. You might be interested in running a search of the Your System Saloon for Ascend to see what folks think.

As long as you have enough clean power to drive the Ascends at the desired volume, you should be fine. They will benefit from higher end electronics. My 170's run off a 1050 and play as loud as needed. There's a guy on the Ascend forum who is running 340's across the front and 170's in back ,with a Sherwood Newcastle P-965 and two ATI amps and loves it!
