the only x-over is the 1050(i keep everything "dialed down" to match the marantz, since it has no gain)the trim on the b&k really helps.

Ok..so two subs should be ok instead? I imagine so . My one can shake things up pretty well as it is.

Wing,

Yes, I use Aura bass shakers. I think they're great - alot of fun. Check this thread for a good discussion as well as a more detailed description of my installation. More discussion here too.
We just got some new furniture recently and everyone has been pestering me to install them in the new chairs. smile
BTW, the ones you linked to look like the Aura Pro models which can be found at Parts Express much cheaper.

I use 2 shakers in one of the chairs. I have another set to add to the other recliner, but have not added it yet. It can be fun for movies, but I find them distracting for music. I only power them on on special occasions. My Shakers

I think the advantage of the Aura is that they are small and easier to mount in individual chairs. The Butt kicker, although a superior product, is large and would be over kill, expense wise, in a single chair. I have a slab floor with pad and carpeting over it and my HT is in the living room, so adding a Butt Kicker in this configuration is difficult. Also, I can add two shakers to a chair in series for an 8 Ohm load when needed without significant cost.

Adding another 1000 watt amp to my system may require an additional circuit breaker as well. Also, I'm not sure how I would use the rubber isolators to the bottom of the runners of a recliner.

I got the shakers installed in our new theater seating (Palliser) on Saturday night. It was a tight fit but I didn't have to make any modifications like I did on our other chairs. With the previous set-up the driver was mounted to a board fastened across the lower back area. Now I have them fastened to the back of the seat portion, on the opposite side of the board where the seat springs attach. It tends to transmit the vibrations through the springs so it is felt more in the glutes and down the legs. Whereas the other set-up had a tendency for vibrations to travel up the spine. I'm not sure which is better but it is definitely different. I do prefer the new set-up with music though. I only have 2 chairs wired but I'm planning to do a couple more. Unlike MeanGene I only use one driver per chair. That seems more than adequate, for me at least.

If you want a better bass shaker for less, just pick up a cheap subamp, 12" driver, invert it in a 16" round x 24" high sonotube vented into the end of a sheet of MDF supported by 2x2s under your couch. Makes a platform about 2" thick and the whole thing shakes, therefore your couch does too.. (and your feet) The sonotube also makes an end table..

Does the job of 3 or 4 shakers...

Could do the same with an LFM1 I suppose...

Thanks for that idea. That may be a fun DIY project.
