Wow! I just kind of glossed over a lot of this info before because my 1050 doesn't do most of this. I've been using it with my digital inputs and using either DTS or the 1050's 6.1. I guess I never really noticed how many different methods were available for extracting the surround details.

I can see where the PLII and such would be beneficial for TV viewing and the like, but what about movies? Do most of you tend to use the 2 channel out and use one of the 2 channel processing methods in the pre/pro or do you get better results using the DD 5.1 EX or DTS ES out (or 5.1 or DTS) from the disc?

I'm not sure that's worded very well, but I think the point of the question is clear. smile

With my 950, I use PLII and CES for pretty much any two-channel source except CD's - both TV viewing and DVD's with 2.0 soundtracks. I listen to CD's in straight stereo. Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 DVD's get CES applied to bring the surround back channels into play. DTS-ES discs (of which I have very few, maybe five titles total) get DTS-ES processing, but for Dolby EX I probably use CES instead of EX more often than not.

If a discrete multi-channel track is available, then that's always my first choice.

Keep in mind that surround processing like PLII is not meant to be used instead of a 5.1 soundtrack, it's there for situations when you don't have a 5.1 soundtrack.
