Hello, i'm currently looking to upgrade my receiver and was wondering about the prologic on the 1050. I have a cheap Pioneer VSX-D309 the doesn't handle regular stereo (almost no bass)and on broadcast tv..the rear channel audio is almost non existent. I've done various settings to the receiver and have never been satisfied with the regular analog prologic... Can someone give me an idea how well the 1050 handles this?
thanks.

I'm not an expert on Pro-Logic, but I've had some experience with two Yamaha Pro-Logic receivers (one belonged to a roommate in college, the other I used for 3.5 years or so) and the 1050 and I suspect that part of what you find disappointing in your Pioneer's performance is inherent in Dolby Pro-Logic. Regular stereo signals (not DPL signas) will tend to collapse to the center channel (meaning in some cases much or even all of the information will be fed to the center channel), with nothing sent to the surround channel. It is a limitation that I believe will appear on any Pro-Logic receiver, including the 1050. The only alternatives I'm aware of are custom DSP modes (which may or may not be any better) or Pro-Logic II.

thanks.. I think I just need to get separates and feed more power to the rears a friend of mine has an HK Pro-logic only receiver (with separate amps driving the front and rears) mated with a JBL PB12 and the sound is absolutely incredible! it blows everything i've heard so far (in analog)for music. thanks again for the info! looks like i'm getting me that outlaw 750 and then make a decision what's gonna drive it..

I suspect that you will enjoy the Model 750 -- it's a nice piece of gear. Had mine since July 2001 and love it.
