ok, i am comparing between the outlaw 1050 and the onkyo 787. the one advatage to the 787 is the dual 6th channel pre-outs for a seperate 2 channel amp for 7.1 channels. is their any way to get 7.1 channels with the 1050 (i know there is only 1 6th channel pr-out)?

thanks in advance.

You could always split the pre-amp out signal and power two channels from the single surround back output, or check out the manual -- there's a section on using the 1050 to drive two surround back speakers.

Obviously, this means that both speakers (6 and 7) are getting the same signal, but currently that is true anyway of 7.1 decoding for most everything (Lexicon's Logic 7 being one of the only exceptions, I believe, but that's in a somewhat different league than the 1050 or 787).

thanks for the info! so, you can set the 6th surround channel output to 4 ohms, and keep the rest at 8 ohms? could you also 'y' the 6th channel pre-out to a seperate amplifier and then run the speakers from that amp respectively? if so, which would be the optimal way to acheive the 7.1 sound?

My first thought was actually to split the 6th channel pre-amp out to a separate two-channel amp driving two speakers, actually. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. If I had the amplification available, it's what I would prefer doing.

using the seperate amp would eliminate the ohm problem, correct?

and can you set individual ohm levels on the 1050? the 6th channel to 4 ohm, and all other channels to 8???

Nope, the 4ohm/8ohm switch affects all six channels.

ew, then it wouldn't be too optimal to run all channels at 4 ohms just to compromise to the 6th channel?

has anyone had experience running 8 ohm speakers at the 4 ohm setting with 2 center rear 6th(and 7th) channels?
