I have some echo in my upstairs listening environment and am looking for some poly or fiberglass sound panels to deaden the room. Who are some of the suppliers? How fireproof is poly? I think I probably need to add some to the ceiling, so I'm leaning towards what I think is the lighter weight; poly. How much is this going to cost???

Thanks all,
Mike

I can help with some of the suppliers, but you'll have to get the other info from them directly. I've come across these from various research and surfing on the internet. The only company I have real experience with is Auralex and even then, I just have a set of Mo Pads for my center channel speaker. Others may be able to give you real experience.

Good luck!

I ended up ordering some auralex products (the sonoflat & sonofiber) and will post when I have them installed. I thought about making some, but it was just too easy to buy them ready made. I also got one sheet of 2x4 studiofoam from a local music store. I hope I did the right thing in ordering more rigid products. I guess I'll know if I may the right choice in about a week when the panels show up.

I have finally hung all the panels I ordered from auralex and I'm pretty happy. The "slap" has gone down alot. I may still need a little more upstairs, but I'm going to let it sit for awhile.

I really recommend adding padding if you have a hard room. It's easy to tell. Just clap your hands and listen for echoes. Reducing them softens the sound substantially. EQ cannot really get rid of this, so there really is no electronic way out of this problem. I have posted a few pics on the web site of the finished walls.
