I need to protect my wiring from my little pups. So far I have lost my rear center speaker until I found my wire chewed through and more recently my subwoofer because they chewed through the power cable. Fortunately they were not electrocuted.

So I am considering getting some wire conduit to protect my wiring. Before I purchased the usual black plastic conduit I though I would throw the task by the experts here and see what idea arise.

BTW: The sub was an SVS and they were kind enough to replace the cable at no charge to me. They even shipped it for free. Great support !

Have they continued to chew since the power cord? My parents' cat got a little too friendly with a power cord a year or two back and as far as I know hasn't gone near wires since.

I've used some inexpensive plastic wire loom to tidy up computer cables on the desk at home - this sort sort of stuff might slow them down, but if they're as tenacious at chewing on plastic as my cat is, it may not stop them. Heavier duty cord covers (like these ) ought to keep the cables really safe, I would suspect. For the truly paranoid (or the really determined canine), you could even try surface raceway or wiremold - it would be less interesting to them than wire loom or bare cables, and like the cord covers would stand up to a lot more abuse if it did get gnawed on.

Want a really strange idea? It's one my dad used to keep squirrels off of tomatoes and I briefly used to keep them off the cable TV along the side of the house - a tabasco/hot sauce paste on the wires where they are exposed. The taste was a real turn-off to squirrels. Don't know if it would be similar for dogs.

I like the look of Wire Duct found I the site you suggested. I have a very short length to protect so this may be doable.

I thought about tobasco or perhaps IcyHot since my dogs hate the smell of IcyHot. But it might eventually ware off and in the case of Tobasco I can't rule out that my dogs will find that even more appetizing.

I had the same problem with our cat and my daughters ferret.

I used some hard plastic 3/4" wire conduit that you can get from home depot relatively cheap. After using the conduits on the exposed wire, I used a type of pet-off spray recommended by someone at Petsmart and sprayed the outside of the conduit, it worked. I think the spray was Apple Core Based, as strange as that sounds.

Gonks tobasco/hot sauce remedy is the cheapest solution and it really does work, animals hate hot and spicey tastes, but be careful it can stain rugs, walls and wood flooring.

Not a good thing with the wife!!!

The stuff that The Spatula refers to is called Bitter Apple and dogs and cats hate it equally. One of our cats decided my Auralex Mo Pads looked like a tasty chew treat. (Fortunately, she chewed on the back so it isn't easily visible.) I sprayed it with Bitter Apple and they haven't touched it since. (Knock on wood.)

Before I went to any great lengths to cover the cords up, I'd try the Bitter Apple. Just pay close attention that you don't have the "one in a million" dog that just happens to like the taste

On another note, your screen name cracks me up, Mr. Spatula. The name makes me think you would be a great super hero in The Tick comics or perhaps one in the movie Mystery Men. (A pretty bad movie with a really funny premise. The scene in the diner with The Spleen just kills me though.) Just thought I'd offer that.

Does that stuff have a smell to it?

None that I've ever noticed. You may smell it if you got in on your hands, but I've used it on stuff and never noticed a smell.

It's primary function is to keep animals from chewing on things, be it speaker cables, furnture etc.

It is colorless, odorless and does not stain. It worked for me!
