Perhaps this is in my owner's manual, but I can't find mine...

When I listen to CDs, I use my DVD player and I listen in 2-channel, through my mains.
As such, I want the mains set to "Large" and the sub off.

When I watch movies, I set the 1050 to DVD and the mains to 'small', with the sub "on".

My question - how do I assure that my "CD" settings have the mains as large and the sub off, and that my "DVD" setting has the mains set to small and the sub on? It seems like I have to switch it every time I want to watch a movie or listen to music.

Thanks

I have good news and bad news. Good news: the manual is available online ( click here ) as an Acrobat PDF file. Bad news: the speaker settings are universal, not input-specific. Sorry.

The trick I use is to assign the same digital input, optical 1, to two different inputs. I have it assigned to both CD and DVD. I have CD set to 2 channel stereo, and the DVD to 5 channel surround, with the center rear turned on even though I don't have one (to get around the Atlantis, JPIII and Pearl Harbor problem).

I'm not sure though whether you can set the speakers to small/large based on input.

You could probably also program your remote with a macro to do the switch, but it would be tricky, and depend on the current state of the settings to work properly.

Your idea works great for different surround settings (which is what I first thought rmcard might be thinking of), but I don't think it'll work for small/large settings. At least I didn't see a way for it to work last night when I tinkered with the settings.

It's not a perfect solution, but what about leaving the mains set to "large" all the time? Using zacster's input trick, you could have the CD input set up for stereo and with the mains set to large there wouldn't be any info sent to the sub (I think). The mains would be still be "large" when you watch DVD's, but I don't think the sub will be active on music. Can anybody see a flaw in my reasoning?

IF you do that, you won't get any sub for DPL, either, as DPL doesn't send any bass to the surrounds or to the center and has no LFE track. Maybe this is what he wants; I don't know.

My thinking, really, is this...

When I watch movies, I like to have a sub/satellite type set-up where all speakers are set to small. This, in theory, allows the mains to operate more efficiently, as they no longer have to worry about bass production.

When I listen to music, I prefer to have it be in 2 - channel mode, without the use of a sub... just personal preference. Thus, I was hoping that the large/small settings could be adjusted per input. It appears this is not the case, but I appreciate all the feedback.

This is my preference, as well. It's a shame, but apparently the 950 is not going to support this either.
