I have a NAD 7240PE receiver that I am using only for my Niles OS-10 outdoor speakers on my patio. I now would like to install a Niles OS-10SI outdoor speaker on my deck. I want to use this single stereo speaker on the deck, because I only have space for one speaker under my eave. The OS-10 speakers are 8 ohms and the OS-10SI speaker is 4 ohms. The NAD has a 4 or 8 ohm switch on the back. If I would set the the switch on 4 ohms and run both sets at the same time would it harm either or both of the speakers? I have speaker selector setting on the receiver for A,B,and A&B. I would like to be able to have both sets playing at the same time. Thanks for you help.

Two 8 ohms speakers in series will present the same load as one 4 ohms speaker. So, you can set the the tab at 4 ohms, run OS-10's in series on A and run OS-10SI on B. What I don't know is if you are going to get the same output when you run both A and B at the same time and if delay between OS-10's will be noticable.

Two 8 ohms in parallel equals 4 ohms, Two eight ohms in series equals 16 ohms.

if you pair up your speakers parallel or series you are gonna lose stereo. they make devices that can increase or decrease resistance for you, id get one and toss it on the oddball speaker wire to get the 3 the same.

Parallel is what I meant. It comes from being a single track person who has a hard time multitasking.....

Back to the topic: you can also use the pre out (if you have that on your receiver) and drive the odd speaker with an old amp or another receiver.
