Remember in the last newsletter, when the Outlaws said they might run out of stock on the 1050's briefly this month? Well, it looks like the did . Came across it on the order form page. "B-stock" 1050's are available, and they hope to get re-stocked in a couple weeks.

Gonk,

Read your post and think back to Nov. and Dec. news on 1050. Now jump ahead to the "other products" section of those news posts and the most recent. Any connection ya think or am I reading in and hoping too much? Tried to speak in tongues as not to burst any possible bubbles.

vox - Atcha-woo-nee-wop. (poorly transcribed account of speaking in tongues).

I'm not going to make any guesses as to what the Outlaw's "late February" surprise may be. I'm do suspect that this month's surprise will not be anything real "big" -- more along the lines of a remote or headphone amp or perhaps even a two-channel version of the 750 rather than a new receiver or DVD player (although a DVD player would be cool). We'll know one way or the other soon enough....

Speaking of DVD I, just saw this news release today that 9 electronics firms(the big boys) have established a HD-DVD format called Blu-ray Disc and that licensing could start as early as this spring. Is this significant news or just PR jibberish?

HD-DVD. Now that would be a nice new product for the Outlaws!

Richard

I'd be surprised if the Outlaws released a DVD player now. For one, the DVD-A/SACD problem hasn't been worked out yet, nor has the digital interconnect problem. I do believe they said they'd hold off until they could work out those both.

I personally think (hope) the surprise is going to be the DLP.

Maybe they will release their DVD player on the new blue laser standard when their player gets here.

Stott, I can only hope. However, if the Outlaw's timeline is 12-18 months on a DVD player, they may exclude Blu-ray Disc (BRD) on the same basis as excluding Firewire on the 950: Yea we could do it, but there's no content yet so why add extra cost now. It's lame but I'm just thinking outloud here. Besides, I'm sure the first versions of BRD players will hurt where it counts: in the wallet let alone the cost BRD's themselves!
