A shame, it is. Dream, true, but not a pipe dream.

This is exactly what I've been talking about in a different post on this forum. I believe the 1050's "Value" is slipping. The larger companies are playing some serious catch-up right now and in some cases are surpassing the 1050's features at close to the same price point. The new Onkyo is going to have similar power (probably still less than the 1050 even though it is listed at 80 wpc)and variable cross overs, plus DTS ES, DD EX, AND component video switching at an MSRP of $530. This easily puts its street price at the same $499 as the 1050. It really makes the decision to purchase from Outlaw difficult. The arguement may be that the Outlaw is better built, but how could I tell? I will be able to walk down to my Hi-Fi shop and check out the Onkyo, but not the Outlaw.

If Outlaw did come out with a successor with the added features (even without the component video switching since I think that's a little over-kill in this price range) for under $600, I think I would buy it. Actually I know I would buy it. For now I'm going to sit on the fence for a couple of months and see what happens.

The truth is, though, the Outlaws probably won't upgrade it as long as it is still selling well. It doesn't make business sense to. That unit is basically gravy for them right now.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy to see an improved version, though. It IS getting a bit long in the tooth.

The 1050 is competing quite well as is. It is the champ in SOUND QUALITY if not in features and flashy appearence.

Stereophile Guide to Home Theater (March/April Issue) 2002 Recommended Components includes two Outlaw products. The $499. Outlaw 1050. The other recommended A/V Receivers were $2400- $3800 (5 to 7 X it’s price!). The Outlaw 750 ($1099.) Amp was also a recommended component and higher rated amps started at $3395 and went up to $10,000.

Can these new receivers with extra features one may or may not use match the qulity of sound from the 1050? That's what is most important to me.

Sure I would like DPLII but I am not willing to trade sound quality or pay a lot of money for this feature.

I agree. Bad DPL II is NOT better than good DPL.

Wow, hope we can change p/w's on here...

Well, this is very interesting. I've owned my onkyo 575 for over 4 years. It's developed a problem. It has a hard time comming on but if you hit the power on off several times it will usually wake up ... Then it works fine. Anyway...

I really like the 575 reciever, it's built really well, I have really pushed this reciever a lot with mostly HT stuff. I got infinity refrence speakers all the way around and a sunfire 1000Watt Amp driving a 15" JBL sub. At only 65 WPC I fill that the onkyo does a really good job driving my infinity speakers. The effects on the onkyo are really good. And I acutally came here to REPLACE my onkyo because I heard all the good things about outlaw. I really want to get the 750 but spending 1K on an AMP and then another 500 - 700 for the processor is a bit much for me ...

Well, I spent around 400 for the onkyo, and the only thing I don't like about it ... other then it is acting up now ... You can hear a slight *Hissing* noise when you turn the volume up above 65. I doubt the outlaw has this problem.

I am not sure what the warranty is on the outlaw but the onkyo has a 3 year warranty. Even tho, my unit is becoming defective I still satasfied on how it has performed and what I got out of it for the past 4 years.

Funny that I read this post because I've read all the reviews about this reciever and all of them say that the onkyo has a better processor in it. So, I might as well wait for the new onkyo's to pop up on the market... Sheesh, and just when I was about to purchase this unit too!!! Now they are out of stock. I will wait for the new Onkyo... Anyone else with thought or comments?

It would be really nice to get some feedback to anyone that had time with both units.
