I see you have a Pan DMR80. I have been researching dvr's but have been reluctant so far. Can you answer some questions for me?

1)Have you tried recording any music using the LPCM feature?

2)How user friendly is the unit?

3)How is the build quality, does it have aluminum face?

4)How do you like the silver finish with your outlaw gear?

I haven't tried recording music. Might be an interesting experiment, though. The manual is pretty poor, so expect a fairly steep learning curve, but once you get used to it the interface is pretty decent. As for build quality, I'd say it's better than the average DVD player (probably due at least in part to the bulk involved in the hard drive assembly). The panels all fit together reasonably well, but the faceplate is plastic (not aluminum). I am still not a huge fan of the silver, but it ended up being fairly unobtrusive alongside all the other black equipment.

Gonk-thanks for the reply. Did you look into the Panasonic 3040 pro model, it appears to be very similar to the DMR80 and comes in black, but only has a 40 gig HD.

The 3040 is the same as the HS2, an older model with a smaller hard drive and without the high speed dubbing capability. The 3040 and HS2 did include FireWire connectivity for DV camcorders (similar to the 120GB E100), which the E80 lacks.
