Joe's Shanghai is wonderful. The one in China town has better prices. The one near the Hilton has better atmosphere unless you want the china town grunge feel. You must try the steamed buns. Get the crab and pork not just the pork. The crab is the key. I also recommend the drunken chicken or wine chicken. Another excellent Shanghai dish is Rice Cake which is one of my favorite.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is the best. The link you provided doesn't even mention the Taro Ice Cream but let me suggest you try it if you have the chance. A very unique flavor that is simply wonderful.
OK I am getting hungry now I have to go eat.
The one in Chinatown is "more authentic" in terms of atmosphere. You are usually greeted by a waiter asking you "how many" in regards to the soup dumplings. Just make sure you know what he is talking about and order enough for the table so you do not look like a tourist.
As for the Ice Cream factory, I am partial to the Green Tea and Red bean myself...Maybe, I will get some for dessert tonight. Only 10 minutes on the Subway, 20 minutes on the bicycle, or 35 minutes if I walk.
Now, I'm hungry!
