I was doing a little web surfing and hunting for info on HD-DVD when I stumbled on this new player. The Momitsu DVD-V880 It may not be true HD-DVD but for the price it looks like a nice distraction until HD-DVD arrives. Here is a link to a review: http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/videodevices/momitsuv880/momitsuv880_background.html
And here is where you can get one.
www.Hivizone.com Let me know what you think.

From what I understand, the Samsung HD931 (and I think the Bravo D1 as well) also upconverts to 1080i on the DVI output, but the real key to these players is how well they upconvert to 1080i or 720p. I have seen mixed reviews on the Samsung and somewhat better reviews of the Bravo, but this is the first I've heard of the Momitsu.

I've seen some of the reviews mentioned above and I think I'll wait a bit longer. I think that the wait for a true HD-DVD player is worth it. Hopefully by this time next year we'll all be singing the praises of the new format and complaining that our spouses won't let us upgrade.

I just bought the 563a (Love it by the way) so I'm not in the market myself. I do hope when HD-DVD players are released they will have the ability to up convert old DVDs to 1080i. I have a lot of DVD's already and don't wish to start over.

Now if I could just get into my new house so I can stop staring at my new 950/7100 combo and start hearing it………………

There's actually a US distributor for this player at extremephono.com. I have one, and it works well for me.

Also own a 563a, But the desire for 1080i is unrealistic I think. If a DVD isn't recorded in HD then your never really getting it anyway right? your just duplicating pixels on the screen ? I guess we'll just have to wait until they start recording movies with HD cameras? What do you guys think?

On fixed panel displays, all sources are scaled to the native resolution of that display (for example, 1024x768). Scaling in the dvd player is usually superior to scaling in the display because 1) it is performed before the D/A conversion, and 2) it uses better electronics. So you're not trying to get High Definition quality with one of these dvd players, you're just trying to bypass the scaling of the display device.
